Osteopathy Today
Effective for musculoskeletal problems and much more besides, Osteopathy works by removing structural obstacles to healing, thereby providing relief from symptoms, promoting recovery, and improving functional health.
Whereas many patients will consult Osteopaths for back pain and joint problems, the Osteopath considers the balance of the whole body, and not just 'the bit that hurts'.
As a result, many kinds of condition may be helped.
The Treatment
Osteopathic treament typically consists of massage, muscle stretching, articulation (movement) of joints, or manipulation (where sometimes a joint will click). Treatment is seldom painful and is often very pleasant.
You may be offered simple exercises to perform at home as part of the treatment.
Conditions treated by Osteopaths
These include common aches and pains due to strains, falls and overuse; back or neck pain, and headaches; also the effects of postural changes from work, sport, injury, childbirth and pregnancy, which can affect health indirectly.
