Safe, effective treatment for painful complaints

osteo1.jpgOsteopathy is an established system of diagnosis and treatment of painful conditions which is recognised by the British Medical Association.

It is essentially a "hands-on" manual therapy that is based on th belief that if the structure and alignment of the body are correct, then it will function properly.

Dr. Andrew Taylor-Still, the founder of osteopathy, first proposed his philosophy and practice in 1874 in the U.S.A.

Our aim is to relieve your pain, improve your mobility and get you better as quickly as possible.

We treat all people - the young, the elderly, pregnant women and children (10 years and older at this practice).

What Happens in a treatment?

osteo3.jpgAt your first treatment a comprehensive medical history is taken. This is similar to visiting any other registered medical practitioner. Orthopaedic, neurological, cardiovascular and other tests may be performed by the osteopath if needed. In some cases X-rays, blood tests or scans may need to be arranged through your GP to allow a full diagnosis and treatment plan to be developed.
Your posture will be examined and you may be asked to perform a series of simple movements. The osteopath will then use his highly developed sense of touch to identify areas of immobility or excessive strain throughout the body.

"Hands-on" treatment consists of massage of the muscles, tendons and ligaments and manipulation of the joints. Ultrasound may be used and a few exercises may be recommended to aid recovery.
Treatment is not painful and most people find it a relaxing and pleasant experience.
